This fall, I will start working 4 days instead of 5. Yes, I have been working full time these past three years, whilst also trying to set up my own illustration company. In fact, I've been working more than full time, as I work for a cultural institution and we often have evening events. About two times a week, I get home around midnight. Which is fine. I just don't get a lot of sleep. Or time to think. Or see friends and family. Or time to sort of be where I am at and come up with a coherent plan or idea of where I want to be. And that kind of needs to change. Now. I know I am probably being a tad too optimistic thinking this one day a week will completely transform my life, but it's a (very small) step towards healthier 'energy management'. Been watching this video of energy expert Tony Schwartz I found on 99% (Behance) over and over again.
"You can actively cultivate the emotions that serve you best just as systematically as you can build a bicep or a tricep."

Hiya folks!
So, as I mentioned before, the awesome people over at Derwent recently sent me some of their Inktense pencils and blocks to try out and review. I decided I needed to do a video about them and just SHOW you how they work, without really giving thought to the fact that I kind of really don't like making videos. Anyways, I still did it and it is LONG.
So if you don't feel like watching the entire thing, including my not-so-funny jokes (I had just finished cleaning my house and was probably still high on chlorine), here's a summary:
- Colors are as bright and intense as promised;
- Blocks are softer and brighter than pencils;
- LOVE the way they feel on watercolor paper;
- Am not too happy about the way they perform on my crappy journal
paper;
- Smooth look when first shading in and then adding water;
- More textured look when dipping the pencils in water;
- Great blending (on watercolor paper, they dry too quickly on thin paper)-
so a couple of colors will do;
- All in all: The blocks especially are pretty sweet and I will enjoy using
those more often in the future! Wouldn't necessarily buy the pencils myself
as I like my pencils to be a little softer, but the blocks are amazing!
Alright! Hope you liked the video despite my laundry tales and the crappy sound (I promise to get a better mic should people like to see more videos) and that it was useful for you in deciding whether to get these or not!
A big thank you to the nice folks over at Derwent for sending me these! <3

Because I happened to be filming anyways (these are all professionally shot with the Photo Booth application on my 13 inch Macbook - nothing but the best for you of course), here's a time-lapse video of me drawing this image.
The editing is crappy, I know. I blame the Macbook. Actually, I think it wants a divorce because I tried to edit two movies, photoshop some large images, send an email, use Twitter and Skype all at the same time this morning. Which is like, totally not a big deal or anything. Defendant Macbook, however, basically gave me the finger by saving these little movies in a disorderly fashion and then carefully (and maliciously!) deleting all original files. At least, that's my version of what happens. The Macbook's attorney says no comment. Which means I'm right.
Hope you enjoy the video despite our matrimonial issues!

I think I will officially name this first attempt at video blogging the 'Miss Dork Fest'-blog, since it took me almost five minutes to explain how much I like the Faber-Castell PITT Brush Pens. Somehow, I seem to have no problem whatsoever with putting up videos of me dancing to silly songs but listening to myself talk is just excruciating. So I decided to put it up anyways so YOU can see it and laugh at me! Have fun!

OK. The reason this video is so lame, is because my camera "forgot" to film half of the stuff I did. So I tried to distract you all by doing my little hot dance. Did it work? Yes? Good.
Anyways, the music is by Ingrid Michaelson, whom I love. You can find her over at www.ingridmichaelson.com. Many thanks to her for making this available for use through Podsafe.

Enjoy!
