Today we celebrated Meneertje's 3rd birthday. He got a new bed for his birthday as he had kind of outgrown the igloo we got him as a kitten. He was superexcited, as you can tell.
Also, if I have one more person (with kids) come up to me and suggest I stop mothering my cat and have some real babies, I'm going to... well.. Use this on your children. You will have left me no choice. It's up to you. Just saying.

Happy birthday to me! I turned 28 today and it was awesome.

^ Picture of Meneertje and me chilling before my family arrived (Ashwin was also in the room, but I couldn't get him to lay down on the floor to get in the frame).
(Gifts will be shown off elaborately in a future post. But right now my stomach is too full of cake and pasta and wine and tea and love).

Happy 2012, folks!

I hope you had a wonderful new year's eve, celebrating into the new year with those you love close around you. We celebrated the new year with my mom and her husband (who were driving home from their holiday home in France) and it was just lovely. I cooked a many-course meal, they brought oysters from France, and we walked to the Mont des Arts to watch the fireworks the city organizes each NYE.
On Sunday my mom and her husband left again, leaving me with a mild case of the new year's blues (also known as a slight hangover), which I combatted by listening to my favorite music, taking a yoga class, drinking tea, and... drawing in my new book!

Yes, that's right. It's not a Moleskine this year. *Shock* *Horror*. I know. It was a pretty big deal to me as well, but after five years I'd had enough of the daily planner and although I tried my best to find a Moleskine alternative I liked, I just couldn't find one that lived up to my many wishes. I even went as far as to email Moleskine and ask them for a custom book, but I'm assuming they must have thought I was insane, as they never replied. And to be honest, they've got about 50 different styles of books, so it really is me, not them.

Anyways, I'm hugely thrilled to have gotten started in my (Seawhite) book and I'm feeling challenged and excited. So accompanying this post are some of the first drawings I did in this book. Hope you like them! Oh, AND I also did a new mood board. Yes, I had a pretty long break this Christmas.

Have a wonderful first week back at work, everyone!

One good thing about having a fever, is that some things all of a sudden seem... easier. And so I spent most of my Sunday working (very slowly with a lot of naps in between) on Meneertje's first zine!

The mini zine is A7 sized and has 8 black and white pages and unfolds into an A4 poster.
You can get it in my Etsy Shop. Enjoy!

I'm not even going to try to come up with any kind of excuse. You guys already know this is how I spend most of my free time. You see right through me, you do.

Like many others, I joined The Sketchbook Project 2011 organized by the Art House Co-op in Brooklyn, New York. In short: you sign up, pay a fee and they send you a book for you to fill. Then, you return the book and they send it on a tour around the country, together with all those other amazingly talented people who signed up as well. Sounded good to me and so last year I signed up, got the book, even bought a t-shirt and... I ehrm, well... my muse left the building so fast I had trouble tying my shoelaces for days. Me, the girl who has kept an illustrated journal for about four years, couldn't fill the little Moleskine cahier on time. So I send it in late, shame on me (haha, this is turning out quite the confessional week here on the blog, right?).
BUT! I did finish and well... TADAAAAA! Here are some of my favorite spreads:

Hope you're all having a lovely week. I promise to be back soon with another outfit update, some pictures of my life in Brussels, and some exciting news!
Bisous!

Ola all you greedy little bastards!
Juuuust kidding (kind of)! I had no idea there were so many of you out there. Well, actually, I did because I'm obsessed with my Google Analytics stats, but it was nice to put names to the numbers.
Speaking of names and numbers, Random.org helped me pick a random comment: comment number 26:

You didn’t win?! =O Dude that’s impossible..
your work is always so much fun =)
Congratulations Janine! E-mail me with your postal address and the bookmark will be on its way!
And now that I've congratulated Janine, I can smoothly segue into the next issue on today's agenda ('cause I'm smooth like that): Chocolate pie baby!

Ashwin is turning 31 on Monday, and we're celebrating today. So I got up early to decorate the place, prepare lunch and this pretty awesome chocolate cake. I mean, I know I'm supposed to be all like "Ooh come on guys, I know this isn't the best chocolate cake ever, don't be silly", but you know it kind of is the best. Martha herself couldn't have done a better job if you ask me. Congratulations Ashwin! I love you!
Meneertje of course wants none of the birthday action. Bo-ring! (See, now it's a Caturday-post, too. Check, check and check!)

Bangawoyo people!
(according to Flickr, that's hello in Korean. Well, the bangawoyo-part. The people-part is English. Obviously.)
Soo. Didn't expect to see me here tonight, did you? Well me neither, because as you may have noticed (or haven't noticed because I'm speaking to you from your RSS-reader) - my blog's got a new look! Took me all day. Although I was and still am quite in love with the old design, I felt it didn't really match the content of the site (anymore) and it needed an update. So here's my blog's new do! Yay! I hope you like it.
And, speaking of eye-candy, here are last week's journal pages. Hot from the scanner! Enjoy!

10082010: Thank you!
I LOVE sushi. Sushi makes me so happy. We hardly ever have it because my boyfriend isn't a big fan and it's kind of expensive, but today he let me buy some for dinner. Yay!
10092010: This Saturday was a rare day off for me (I've been working a LOT) and as a result me and Ashwin were discussing what to do. Turns out we have very different ideas on what a weekend should be. I felt like chilling on the couch/in bed all day, watching movies. Ashwin wanted to walk around town and explore. Eventually we did a little bit of both. We walked around a bit and had coffee in town, and there we sat around and did nothing ;-)

10102010: On Sunday I first had to work, and then I tried to catch the last rays of sunshine at a cafe downtown with my boyfriend. What a nice sunny day.
10112010: I got jeggings last week. Oh yes. Those horrible not-leggings-not-jeans combination I never thought I would buy or wear. And now I don't want to take them off. They're SO comfortable.

10122010: I'm so excited and I just can't hide it!
I'm so very excited about my upcoming exhibition in Turtlewings! I hope to tell you all about it soon!

10152010: On Friday I left early to go see a movie with a friend. We went to see 'Eat, Pray, Love', which was fun. Also, the funniest thing happened while we were in a café afterwards. This (very young looking) boy came up to us and had bought us two roses "for the prettiest girls in the café", hoping to join us at our table. We thanked him, but explained that we hadn't seen each other in a while and wanted to talk. He left, came back and tried to sit down again or persuade us to come join him and his friends at their table. We declined again, telling him we were both taken. He said no problem and left only to come back 10 minutes later asking if he could take the roses back, because he had spotted two other girls. It was very funny.

10162010: I ate SO much this weekend. Breakfast with my brother in his new house and my mom and her husband. For lunch, I had a real Dutch 'kroket' at the train station. Yummm. Then, in the evening I went out to dinner with Ashwin and two of his friends who were staying over for the weekend. My belly felt HUGE this morning.
10172010: Despite me (and Meneertje) being the only one(s) going to bed early yesterday while the boys went out drinking - I woke up with a terrible headache (the boys were all fine).
Also: I updated my website design! Yay! Check it out over on: www.annadenise.nl
PS: Yes, Meneertje is on Twitter and he thinks he's quite the little Mr.Funnypants.
...
Okay, actually it's me, pretending to channel my cat's emotions (if he has any, the litte SOB) because I have no friends. You can find that account over here: twitter.com/meneertje09.

Just a little preview of the new prints I've been working on (in case I ever should save up enough money for that awesome printer!)!
Have a good weekend everyone!

Hey there!
Happy what? I know. I had never heard about it either, until Becky over at Bthrifty pointed it out to me. Apparently, cat-obsessed people like me (which I'm only slightly, just for the record, post pictures of their cats on their blogs every Saturday and then call it 'Caturday'. I know! Brilliant, right?
So here's Meneertje, letting it all hang out on the weekend!

And while we're on the topic: what are you doing this weekend?
I'll be taking the train to Holland in a minute to celebrate Valérie's birthday (woop! congrats!) and tomorrow I'll be checking out the Utrechtse Fabriek craft fair with my mom, plus, we'll be visiting the Inez van Lamsweerde exhibition in the Amsterdam museum of photography Foam! Busy busy!
I'll be back on Monday! Have a wonderful Caturday (or weekend, if you're not the kitty kind)!
PS: Check out Gemma Correll's kitty blog! A-dorable!
